Intermec Technologies Corporation, a Unova Company, is a global leader in the development, manufacture and integration of automated data collection and mobile computing systems. They provide products and services to improve productivity, quality and responsiveness of business operations, from supply chain management and enterprise resource planning to field sales and service. Intermec designs systems for automated data collection and mobile computing that helps users to locate assets, improve efficiency, and cut loss and waste. As industry pioneers, they use barcode and related technologies to improve processes in a way that works with existing IS systems. Intermec was founded in 1966, invented the world's first hand-held order-entry terminal in 1969, and introduced the world's first portable bar code scanner in 1971. Nineteen years and many inventions later, Intermec now markets a complete line of data collection hardware, network devices, mobile computers, bar code printers and label supplies in 70 countries. These products help enterprises keep track of vital information as supplies and resources move throughout business processes, such as shipping and receiving, inventory control, work in process, time & attendance, transportation, route distribution, field service and sales automation. The government Systems division has a long-standing history as the prime Automatic Identification Technology (AIT) contractor to the U.S. government. This relationship has enabled Intermec to develop expertise in emerging technologies beyond bar code. This includes the development of such products as the JANUS RFID Tag Interrogator, which can query data from RFID tags that identify large amounts of information such as entire shipping manifests. Intermec is particularly excited about its new CCD technology which is incorporated in hand held scanners. This technology allows bar code reading with non-laser illumination thus reducing the danger to sight of a misdirected laser beam. It reads damaged, poorly printed bar codes and extremely small bar widths. It also reads bar codes at a distance of almost 20 inches making it faster and more efficient to use. Finally, with no moving parts to wear out, the CCD scanners are durable with a longer life than any other scanner. As a Solutions Partner for Intermec, I. Levy & Associates, Inc. provides logistics application software for automated data collection, supply chain automation, warehouse management and e-fulfillment processes. These software packages interface seamlessly with Intermec's bar code and mobile computing hardware systems.
